Session Description:

This session will educate participants about the role of an addiction nurse across various practice settings to include medications used, screening tools and assessment criteria, as well as new approaches to educating youth about drugs, using a harm reduction framework.

Learning Objectives:
  • Predict which clients are at higher risk for developing a SUD due to their patterns of use with drugs and alcohol by applying SBIRT screening techniques to identify and intervene early

  • Explain the assessment criteria involved with specific drugs/alcohol

  • Describe the health consequences and withdrawal symptoms associated with specific drugs of abuse

  • Identify multiple settings and programs for use in harm reduction, including new directions in drug education for teens

  • Identify the different medications used in addiction treatment
